Sicily Study AbroadApproximately $3,900, plus MSU tuition for six credits or Continuing Education Units. The price includes:
  • Roundtrip airfare
  • Transportation and transfers in Italy
  • Double room in 2-star hotel suite, with shared bathrooms
  • All breakfasts
  • Two Full-day excursions
  • Pre-departure seminar
  • Administrative and guest lecturer’s fees
Program prices are based on 20 participants and current exchange rates and are subject to change. An odd number of students may require some students in larger triple room suites. Air-conditioning is available in the hotel for additional daily fees and must be arranged before departure.
Optional weekend excursions to Rome and Naples/Pompeii/Capri are available for additional cost.

Send a reference form and transcript from home institution, plus $100 non-MSU administrative fee.

Non-Students/Non-credit options
A limited number of non-students will be accepted for the program as auditors. Non-student participants signing up for HIST 299 pay a $700 fee to cover both administrative costs and field trips. Non-student participants signing up for any of the other courses pay a $300 administrative fee per course. These fees are due May 1.

Non-student participants wishing Professional or Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) also add $10 per course.


A number of partial scholarships are available for MSU students with at least a 3.0 G.P.A. Contact the Global Education Center for further information. The application form is available here. The deadline for all scholarship applications is March 14, 2008.
  • Coccia Foundation and the Marie Manzetti Memorial Scholarships

    Through the generosity of the Coccia Foundation, MSU's International Summer Institute in Sicily is able to offer one or more scholarships to participants in the 2008 program. The amount of the scholarship(s) has not yet been determined, but will be $500, $1000 or $2000; recipients will be notified of the exact amount at the conclusion of the competition. Preference will be given to members of MSU's Amici Club, though applications from non-Amici members also will be considered seriously.

    Eligibility Criteria:
    Either: (1) previous coursework in Italian language at MSU or (2) willingness to take ITAL 101 during the 2008 pre-session and to take ITAL 102 (which carries three credits) as part of his/her six-credit course load in the International Summer Institute in Sicily.
    N.B.: If a student intends to qualify for the scholarship by taking ITAL 101 during the pre-session and agreeing to take ITAL 102 in Sicily, the award will be made conditionally before departure and will be finalized upon successful completion of his/her Italian language coursework abroad.
     
  • New Jersey Italian and Italian American Heritage Commission Scholarships

    Two $1,000 scholarships are available through the generosity of the NJIIAHC.
     
  • William McLean Scholarship in History

    One $500 scholarship for a history major with a minimum 3.0 in the major and overall
     
  • Glabal Education Center Scholarship

    One or more $500 scholarships will be available due to the generosity of MSU's Global Education Center.
